SB20 Portugal

SB20 Portugal has come a long way in its development from a small fleet to solid 40-boats strong having recently hosted two World Championships, in 2016 and 2021 (postponed from 2020). Clube Naval de Cascais is the home base for all the action, located in the beautiful town of Cascais at the most western point of continental Europe. Depending on the wind conditions the racing is held in protected flat water bay with its tricky shifts and current from the river or out in the wild, the Atlantic ocean with 1 to 4 meter waves and sometimes 25-30 knots strong winds. It is one the most favourite venues of many renowned sailors, like Russell Coutts and Ed Baird, who says that “It’s always fun in Cascais”. We welcome you to come and experience it first hand yourself!

What is it like to sail SB20 in Portugal?

SB20 Netherlands has a busy calendar of events throughout the year, starting in May until October, when the weather still allows us to sail in the internal waters as well as on the North Sea. Our traditional events on the circuit include the regattas Van Uden Reco, with two editions per year in two different locations (Stellendam and Medemblik), the annual National Championship in Medemblik that run alongside the Dutch Sailing Week at our Olympic venue and a number of smaller regattas and trainings on windy Dutch waters. We also join efforts with the Belgian SB20 association and participate with our Dutch fleet in the Open Belgian Nationals that usually happen in the summer in beautiful coastal town of Ostend.
